As July kicked off, the
FIA Foundation and AIP Foundation participated in the official launch
of the Working Group on Safe School Zones Interventions (WG-SSZI) in
Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Avi Silverman, Deputy Director of the FIA Foundation, and Atsani
Ariobowo, Director of Child & Youth Health at FIA Foundation,
represented FIA Foundation during the launch. The
mission to Cambodia served as part of our joint commitment to
establishing safe school zones in the Asia Pacific region with the FIA
Foundation.
The
WG-SSZI serves as a collaborative forum bringing together multi-sector
stakeholders committed to improving road safety for children in
Cambodia. Its
goals are to facilitate regular information exchange, align initiatives
with national and international best practices, and mobilize
coordinated action and investment to strengthen safe school zone
strategies and implementation across the country.
Building on the momentum of our work to improve commuting safety across Cambodia, AIP
Foundation is proud to have been selected by the United Nations Road
Safety Fund (UNRSF) to scale up our work and support policy reform for
safer journeys for Cambodian workers. The launch of this new multi-partner program to safeguard factory commuters took place in mid–July.
This initiative will be coordinated by ILO’s Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) and implemented by AIP Foundation, in close collaboration with the FIA Foundation and other UNRSF partners.
Over the course of two years, the program aims to reduce road crash
injuries and fatalities among commuting workers across Cambodia.
In Thailand, the
Chevron Street Wise road safety program for students celebrated 10 years of successful impact. In 2015, the
Chevron Street Wise pilot project was launched, which is now well established as a legacy road safety program in Thailand.
To date, 30,708 students, parents, teachers, and government
stakeholders have directly benefited from the program, with more than
2.8 million people reached indirectly through the program activities.
As we head into August and September, our team is gearing up for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Regional Road Safety Regional Conference and the APRSO Annual Meeting. We hope to see you there!
In the meantime, I invite you to please read on about our highlights from July in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Sincerely,
