Alliance members participate in UN Special Envoy Consultation
On 1 October 2015, Alliance members represented the NGO sector at an important consultation with the UN Special Envoy on Road Safety, Jean Todt. Mr. Todt was recently appointed to the position by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The consultation was held at UN Headquarters in Geneva and jointly hosted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety. More than 40 road safety NGOs participated. The aim of the consultation was to clarify the role of the UN Special Envoy in advocating for road safety globally, with a specific focus on how the Special Envoy will involve civil society in developing his agenda.
During the consultation, the UN Special Envoy presented his plan of action for his term, and participating organizations presented specific questions and concerns to the Special Envoy and UNECE, including those gathered from Alliance members not in attendance.

Cameroon establishes national committee to prepare for Brazil conference
As part of preparation for the 2nd High-Level Conference on Road Safety in Brazil, Cameroon established a national committee to discuss the organization and functioning of their delegation to Brazil. The objective of the committee is to define Cameroon’s strategic direction and develop an action plan to ensure Cameroon’s successful participation in the global meeting. This committee meets every Wednesday, hosted by Cameroon’s Ministry of Transport, and is composed of a variety of representatives from the public, private, and civil society sectors of Cameroon.
While not all committee members will attend the conference, Cameroon’s committee is an opportunity to convene road safety advocates from across sectors to discuss concerns and perspectives, and bring these perspectives together into a collective national voice to present at the conference.
