Drivers
who use mobile phones while driving will now face a £200 fine and six
penalty points if caught, under new proposals which come into effect on 1
March.
The
new penalty doubles current measures, and is meant to provide a much
stronger deterrent for drivers who use their mobile phones behind the
wheel.
New
drivers (defined as those who have held a full licence for less than
two years) will have their licences revoked if caught under the new
rules. These drivers would then have to re-take both the theory and
practical elements of their driving test.
