Speakers announced for Brake Police Family Liaison Officer Conference

A number of speakers have now been confirmed for Brake's upcoming 'Police family liaison following road death and serious injury' conference. Held in Birmingham on Thursday 8 November 2018, this event offers a great networking and development opportunity for Family Liaison Officers, emergency service workers and victim support professionals.

Speakers confirmed include: Commander Stuart Cundy, Metropolitan Police Providing an opening keynote speech.   PC Jon Ardron, Lancashire Constabulary Discussing the case study cited in Jon's winning 2018 Brake ‘Outstanding Officer Achievement Award’ FLO Award nomination.   Tracey Lister, Victim Helpline and Information Manager, Brake Over-viewing partnership work with the Brake helpline, and support the helpline have provided in complex cases.   Sergeant Tim McAleenan, West Midlands Police Providing an update on the development of the Central Motorway Police Group dedicated FLO unit.   Rosalind Purcell, Foreign and Commonwealth Office Discussing the role of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office following a road death overseas.   Professor Tim Coats, Professor of Emergency Medicine, University of Leicester Over-viewing patient pathway following serious and catastrophic injury. Homicide bereavement: Academics have examined the effectiveness of using treatment encompassing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to reduce levels of PTSD and Complicated Grief in individuals bereaved by homicide. Read more.

Traumatic brain injury and suicide: A new study, using Danish national registry data, has considered associations between traumatic brain injury, and risk of suicide. Read more. Increase in rates of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS): Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have shown an 11% rise in the number of SIDS deaths in the UK, from 2015 to 2016. Read more. Suicide prevention: The Scottish Government has announced plans to reduce the country's suicide rate by 20%, by 2022. To support the plans, the government will set up a National Suicide Prevention Leadership Group (NSPLG) by September 2018, which will be provided with a new £3 million innovation fund. Read more.
