#SPEAKUP: FIFTH UN GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY WEEK
The Fifth UN Global Road Safety Week (UNGRSW) will be held 6–12 May 2019 with the theme of leadership and the hashtag #SpeakUp. UNGRSW is a worldwide campaign to involve governments, NGOs, private companies, and individuals in the push for safer roads to save lives. This year's campaign encourages people to take three easy steps:
  1. Assess their journey
  2. Record their demands
  3. Urge decision makers to pledge to act.
See the campaign website and sign up for the campaign HERE. Get ideas for your campaign in the toolkit HERE.
FEDEX ROAD SAFETY AWARDS: NOMINATE YOUR ROAD SAFETY ROLE MODEL
On 12 April 2019, during the Global Meeting, the FedEx Road Safety Awards will be presented to NGOs from among members of the the Alliance who exemplify our values and have demonstrated growth and exceptional dedication to road safety.

FEDEX EXPRESS AND ALLIANCE ANNOUNCE SAFER CYCLING ADVOCACY PROGRAM

Through the program, Alliance member European Cyclists Federation (ECF) will define safe cycling practices that have proven successful in the central European cities of Copenhagen and Amsterdam. This information will be used to equip Alliance member NGOs in Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia to promote cycling culture and reduce road fatalities. Read more HERE.
VOLUNTARY TARGETS WEBINARS FOR TARGETS TWO, THREE, AND FOUR
Following up our webinar series, NGOs and the Voluntary Targets, the Alliance is releasing a set of webinars on each target to give NGOs, campaigners, and individuals ideas on how they can use them to advocate for safer roads in their countries. This month, we have released two webinars:

•    Target 2: Accede to UN legal instruments. Rebecca Huang, UNECE, takes us through the various core road safety-related legal instruments and their relevance for NGOs.
•    Targets 3 and 4: Recognized standards for new and existing roads. Keith Johnson, Fund for Global Health and the 3-Star Coalition, describes how to advocate for minimum three-star roads; Maatla Otsogile, Society of Road Safety Ambassadors, describes a practical example from Botswana.

Access the webinars HERE. All our previous webinars, including the recent series on Fundraising for Road Safety NGOs, can be found on our website HERE.

BRAKE LAUNCHES GLOBAL FLEET CHAMPIONS
This month, Alliance member Brake launched Global Fleet Champions, a campaign focused on at-work road safety. Individuals and organizations, including NGOs, are invited to become fleet champions and take simple actions to advocate with companies and governments for safe and sustainable work vehicles and journeys. The campaign features the Global Fleet Champion Awards celebrating best practices in fleet safety. Big and small companies from around the world can be nominated for awards in five categories. Find out how you can get involved and use the campaign to advocate for road safety HERE.
