The
European Commission
has published preliminary road crash statistics for the EU in 2018. The
figures indicate, that despite reductions in the number of deaths and
serious injuries on the road, there is much more work to be done.
Between 2010 and 2018, road deaths across the EU reduced by 21%. While
this is a welcome reduction, it indicates that the EU is highly unlikely
to meet its target of reducing road deaths by 50% by 2020.
Policy: WHO: Emergency trauma care is vital
A new report from the World Health Organization (
WHO) highlights the importance of timely emergency trauma care in the event of acute illness or injury.
The report recognises that emergency trauma care is a vital aspect of
universal health coverage which significantly improves the long-term
public health of a community, reduces the likelihood of medical
complications and improves the likelihood of a patient’s survival.
WHO recommends an integrated platform for delivery of emergency care
that will enable healthcare professionals to offer an immediate and
accessible emergency trauma service.
