Guidance for educators
Our guidance for educators is full of ideas on how you can take part in Road Safety Week 2019 and Step Up for Safe Streets by raising awareness, campaigning and fundraising.

Lesson plans
From safe streets designed for people to safe vehicles that save lives... our lesson plans for KS2 and KS3 educators can be incorporated throughout Road Safety Week and delivered over several days. Lesson plans include differentiation activities and will help you achieve your learning goals for English, ICT, history, PSHE/citizenship, drama (KS3) and art (KS2).

Activity sheets
Keep little fingers busy with our fun road safety activity sheets, colouring sheets and postcards – send postcards home so children can Step Up for Safe Streets by asking grown ups to help keep them safe near roads.

Posters
Display posters in your school entrance to let people know you're getting involved in Road Safety Week 2019 and raise awareness of how streets should be designed to meet the needs of people, not for traffic.

Factsheets
Our safe systems factsheets explain why the safe systems approach to road safety is so important, and support the activities included in the lesson plans.

Logos and infographics
Share through your social media channels, newsletters and school websites using the hashtags #RoadSafetyWeek #StepUp. Please remember to tag us @brakecharity

More resources will be added to the Road Safety Week website over the next week – please keep checking in to see what else is available!

Safe systems is child’s play
This short animated film explains the safe systems approach to road safety and shows that when streets are designed for people instead of traffic, people can make safe and healthy journeys wherever they go. Running time: 2 minutes
Our future journeys: safer by design
TV presenter and YouTuber Greg Foot explains how the latest vehicles are designed to prevent crashes and protect people inside and outside the vehicle. Running time: approx. 5 minutes
Get involved!
Take part in a quick survey and tell us about the safety of the streets where you live. We will make sure that the people who make the decisions that matter where you live – about how fast traffic is moving and how much safe space there is for walking and cycling – will hear your views. Brake share the findings from this survey with your local authority to help them understand the views of the people who live, work and play on their streets.

How do other schools get involved in Road Safety Week?

During Road Safety Week 2018, First Class Nursery in Huddersfield ran a Beep Beep! Day with the children and even had a visit from Brake's mascot Zak the Zebra! They talked about the importance of holding hands when crossing the road and wearing helmets when riding their bikes. The children used the free resources provided to talk about the different colours of a traffic light and how they need to wait for the green man to show before crossing safely. Read more
