2022 Alliance Advocacy Objectives

ALLIANCE ADVOCACY IN 2022
To support our NGOs in advocacy toward the Decade of Action, the Alliance has identified three key advocacy objectives that will be refined to form the basis of our campaigns and advocacy throughout 2022.

These objectives have been formulated by evaluating members’ inputs, including the 2021 member survey and campaigns, alongside the global evidence base. They align to themes within the Global Plan for the Decade of Action (Global Plan), which is the blueprint for achieving the 2030 target. In the upcoming regional preparatory meetings, ahead of the Global Meeting, Alliance members will refine the objectives, making them relevant and specific to the realities in their regions, and defining a call to action for the 2022 #CommitToAct campaign in the run-up to the High-Level Meeting on Road Safety (High-Level Meeting) in July.

The three objectives are:
  1. Implementation of evidence-based actions that put people at the center, based on the recommendations in the Global Plan and including 30 km/h limits where people and vehicles regularly mix
  2. Financial investment so that commitments are put into action
  3. Involvement of NGOs in decision-making so that communities are heard

SEVENTH GLOBAL MEETING

On 24 March 2022, we will hold the Global Meeting. It will be a hybrid event with the majority of attendees joining online. Five regional pre-meetings will enable NGOs to prepare for the Global Meeting and to refine the call to action from a regional perspective. Find all dates and links for more information BELOW.

We are excited by the opportunities that the regional meetings and Global Meeting present. Read more HERE.

The Global Meeting will be the first in a series of moments which will support Alliance members to advocate for action in 2022. It will be followed by a #CommitToAct Week of Action in May, ahead of the High-level Meeting.

 GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The General Assembly, which will be held during the Global Meeting, is where Alliance members approve the Alliance’s mission and accounts, elect the Board of Directors and auditor, and can modify the Alliance Bylaws. It is an important part of the Alliance’s accountability to our members. Find more information about the General Assembly HERE.

GLOBAL PLAN: WHAT NEXT?
So far, NGOs have personally handed the Global Plan over to decision makers in at least 35 countries. Read more about the handovers HERE. This is the start of a process of accountability, making sure that our governments put in place policies, actions, and investment to achieve a 50% reduction in road deaths and serious injuries by 2030.

On 1 February 2022, the Alliance is holding a session, with panelists from WHO, FIA Foundation, and the City of Buenos Aires, to explore the next steps and how NGOs can push for government accountability to implement the Global Plan at national and local levels and use it to track progress.

Please join us and bring your questions on how we move from handover to action. Register HERE.
