The countdown is underway to the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, which will be held in Marrakech, Morocco, from 18 to 19 February 2025. Following the launch of the Global Status Report on Road Safety 2023, we know that road deaths have fallen slightly to 1.19 million annually - a 5% drop since 2010.

More than half of all UN Member States, including low-income countries, reported a decline in deaths. Ten of these countries managed to halve deaths in the last ten years. This shows that a 50% reduction in a decade is possible. Rethinking mobility to prioritize walking, cycling, and public transport is essential for people and the planet, tackling global climate, health, and inequity crises. To make that shift, we must all work together.

In this spirit and with factory and garment workers' safety in focus, AIP Foundation hosted a second national workshop to address and seek solutions for safer commutes to work. This second national workshop was held in close collaboration with Cambodia’s government partners, including the General Secretariat of the National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

In Thailand, the Governor of Songkhla Province, chaired the meeting of the Songkhla Provincial Road Safety Administration Center Committee with the Head of the Songkhla Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office to address critical road safety concerns across the province. AIP Foundation was delighted to attend to represent the work that we have been carrying out in Songkhla Province to safeguard students as part of the Chevron Street Wise program.

As part of the expanding legacy of the Helmets for Kids program in Vietnam, supported by Johnson & Johnson an orientation workshop and teacher training took place to launch the program in April 2024. Education plays a crucial role in creating a new generation of road users who have the knowledge to act safer, ensuring the lasting impact of the Helmets for Kids program.

We are excited about the first implementation of the Safe School Zones Guide in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam since its global launch, taking place this month. In collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Safety Committee, we are proud to inaugurate the school zone modifications carried out at four project schools using the technical guidance from the Safe School Zones Guide. Stay tuned for more updates!

As the countdown to the next Global Ministerial Meeting in 2025 goes on, the continuation of collaboration is essential for ensuring safe mobility for all and making a lasting impact on every community.

As we pave the way forward together, I invite you to please read on.

Sincerely,
