Dear Friends and Supporters,
This month, we are immensely proud to announce that Pleiku People's Committee won a Global Road Safety Award from Bloomberg Philanthropies for its work through the
Slow Zones, Safe Zones program that reduced the school zone speed limit to 30 kph as part of a comprehensive approach, which has gained national traction.
Bloomberg
Philanthropies has recognized the Pleiku People’s Committee in Vietnam,
as an inaugural winner of the Awards for Excellence in Road Safety
for its work to identify and promote exemplary road safety efforts. The
awards program, held in New York City, was launched as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety,
which has worked in partnership with international and local
organizations and governments to improve road safety and save lives by
focusing on five key areas: strengthening national legislation;
enhancing data collection and surveillance; changing road user behavior;
improving road infrastructure; and upgrading vehicle safety.
Michael
R. Bloomberg presented the Bloomberg Philanthropies Road Safety Award
to Representing Vietnam’s Pleiku People's Committee: Dr. Khuat Viet Hung, Transport Development and Strategy Institute at the Ministry of Transport in New York.
Our trip
to New York City also gave us an opportunity to attend the latest
meeting of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration and catch up
with friends, new and old! We
were particularly excited to join our partners from the global mobility
community to celebrate the 700,000 lives saved from death and serious
injuries due to iRAPs transformative impact of road safety projects.
Together
with our partners, Fondation Botnar, iRAP, and the FIA Foundation, we
are excited to launch the public-facing report of the
AI&Me: Empowering Youth for Safer Roads program.
This comprehensive document highlights how the project successfully
drove change through youth empowerment and innovative technology,
detailing the proof-of-concept process, results, lessons learned, and
potential for scaling.
In Cambodia, we
hosted a collaborative workshop to share best practices empowering
Cambodian workers to self-advocate for their safe mobility rights on
their commuting journeys together with VF Corporation. The workshop marked the conclusion of the
Prevention & Participation program which has been implemented in supplier factories of VF Corporation since 2020.
As we pave the way forward together, and look toward the 4th Global Ministerial Conference, I invite you to please read on.
Sincerely,
Mirjam Sidik
CEO, AIP Foundation
