Dear Friends and Supporters,
As we
close out 2024, it’s hard to believe how quickly the year has flown by.
In this final global newsletter for this year, we are proud to reflect
on our work and look back at our achievements of the past two months.
Only a few weeks ago, we joined the international community in
celebrating World Cities Day 2024. Designated by the United Nations,
World Cities Day aims to greatly
promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization,
push forward cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities
addressing challenges of urbanization and contributing to sustainable
urban development around the world.
We continued to excitedly follow the updates of our friends and partners attending the Twelfth
Session of the World Urban Forum, convened by the United Nations Human
Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), taking place in Cairo, Egypt, at the
start of November 2024.
Collaboration
and partnership were the key themes throughout the World Urban Forum,
which resonated deeply with us at AIP Foundation as we gathered with
international stakeholders and government partners in Ho Chi Minh City
for the launch of the
STABLE trial. The
STABLE (Slashing
Two-wheeled Accidents By Leveraging Eyecare) trial is a
preliminary study examining the intersection of vision and road safety,
employing contemporary methodologies and focusing on the most vulnerable
populations in road safety, namely youth.
Echoing
the words of United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, we at
AIP Foundation believe that by empowering young people, we drive global
progress for the Sustainable Development Goals.
Building on the success of our innovative Big Data and AI road safety program that recently concluded,
AI&Me: Empowering Youth for Safer Roads, we were proud to launch the newest program championing youth rights in Vietnam: the
Empowering Youth for Livable Cities program. This
new program harnesses the power of youth and empowers youth to drive
positive changes in the development of their communities and ensure
their voices are not just heard but are actively contributing to shaping
their future.
Together
with Boeing we launched the Building Safer Journeys to School for Youth
program to safeguard students on their way to and from schools in
Vietnam. During the event, students had an opportunity to
share their thoughts and reflections on the new modifications while
participating in immersive road safety games at their school.
In November, we joined the international community in observing the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Every year, approximately 1.3 million people lose their lives in road
traffic accidents worldwide. Together, we can change the statistics and
save lives. Road
traffic crashes are preventable, and we call on policymakers to
prioritize the safety of all road users. Let's work together to
strengthen laws and make our roads safer.
An incredible opportunity for us to come together and advocate for stronger laws is the upcoming 4th Global Ministerial Conference for Road Safety 2025. We hope to see you there!
As we pave the way forward together to Marrakech, I invite you to please read on.
Sincerely,
Mirjam Sidik
