2 PhD: Travel Demand Models and Uncertainty

The Project:
The Urban Planning Group has two vacant positions for PhD students. The projects should fit the focus of new externally funded projects on activity-based travel demand modeling under uncertainty. Details of the projects will be decided based on the specific expertise and interest of the PhD students. The PhD projects will focus on developing and validating dynamic travel demand models of group decisions under uncertainty. The aim is to develop alternatives to currently used models.
Description:
The projects will be embedded in the Design and Decision Support Systems Program of the Unit Urban Science and Systems in the Department of the Built Environment. The program has approximately 20 PhD students and postdocs working on the development of models to support planning and design decisions. The Urban Planning Group participates in the Smart Mobility Strategic Area of the TU/e. The group of PhDs is international and multidisciplinary with candidates from China, Iran, Italy, Indonesia, Turkey, Greece, Bangla Dash, etc.
Requirements:
We are looking for excellent and highly motivated candidates with a strong econometric and computational profile. Interest in smart mobility and human choice behavior is essential.

We offer:
We offer a gross monthly salary increases from € 2062,- in the first year to € 2638,- in the fourth year, plus 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end of the year allowance. In addition, the TU/e has an excellent package of attractive benefits for employees, a child-care facility, and a modern sports complex. Assistance for finding accommodation can be given. The duration of the projects is four years, conditional upon sufficient progress. The project is expected to start in October 2013.
