TISPOL Bulletin Tuesday 4 September 2018

TISPOL Bulletin Tuesday 4 September 2018
We really want you to take part in the campaign leading up to Project EDWARD, with daily Twitter messages that have already started and will continue to Project EDWARD Day on Wednesday 19 September.
Everything you need is in the resources library, including a schedule of tweets, the wording for each tweet and an accompanying image (each with English text as above, and also a blank space if you wish to add text of your own). Feel free to translate the tweets and share in your own language - just always ensure that every tweet includes #ProjectEDWARD.
To access the resources library, you just need to register with your name, organisation and email address. It's as quick and simple as that!

Spread the word as we support from all road users for #ProjectEDWARD: European Day Without A Road Death – Wednesday 19 September 2018
  • On average, 70 people still die every day on Europe’s roads
  • Every road death prevented has an estimated value of more than £1.75 million (€1.94 million)
  • Drivers, riders, pedestrians and all other road users are encouraged to sign the pledge at projectedward.eu/pledge and spread the word on social media using #ProjectEDWARD
The #ProjectEDWARD Road Trip
Representatives of TISPOL will be undertaking the ambitious #ProjectEDWARD Road Trip from 11 to 19 September. Visiting venues in Ireland, the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and Spain, the road trip team will be stopping off at various events to boost the profile of safety on Europe’s roads and to support the vital work carried out by police officers in reducing road death and serious injury across the continent.
The #ProjectEDWARD Live Event, Madrid, 19 September
TISPOL will be joining representatives of the European Transport Safety Council, the Guardia Civil and a line-up of sponsors and supporters at a conference to be held in Madrid on #ProjectEDWARD day (19 September). A special guest speaker at the event will be Colette Curran, whose son Edward was killed in a road collision in Madrid two years.
Support
#ProjectEDWARD has the support of senior politicians, police chiefs, policy makers and road safety professionals. The European Commission has also given its backing, with Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc offering her personal support for the third year running.
Sponsorship
Support for #ProjectEDWARD comes once again from a wide range of public and private sector organisations, including Road Safety Support Ltd, Westcotec Ltd and Michelin who have provided additional assistance.
In the UK, GEM Motoring Assist is once again providing sponsorship, with further support provided for the first time this year by IAM RoadSmart, Driving for Better Business (Highways England), Insure the Box, Sussex Safer Roads Partnership/DriveSMART and most recently from Drivetech.
Elsewhere, sponsors include Ireland's Road Safety Authority, the Croatian Center for Vehicles and the German manufacturer Vitronic.
Last year:

  • #ProjectEDWARD was trending in the Twitter top five in the UK, Ireland, Spain and many European countries on 21 September
  • No one died on the roads of the UK, Ireland or Spain on 21 September
  • Records show that a total of 43 people died on Europe’s roads on 21 September 2017 (the same total as for Project EDWARD Day in 2016).
Project EDWARD: live broadcast on Wednesday 19 September
Please make some time in your diary to join our 60-minute broadcast, LIVE from Madrid on Project EDWARD day (19 September). As well as watching interviews and discussions on key road safety topics, you can also join the conversation on Twitter and send your own comments and questions. The provisional time for the broadcast is 1200 (Central European summer time) or 1100 (British summer time), or 1300 (Eastern European summer time).  It is likely that the event will be broadcast live via Twitter and we will shortly provide full instructions for how to join in. So please do set the time aside and take part!
