Community engagement Brake's Kids Walk with Shaun the Sheep Wednesday 26 June Next month, thousands of children aged between 4 and 11 will put their best feet forward to take part in a Brake's Kids Walk and promote road safety and the health and planet-saving benefits of walking. Brake’s Kids Walk is taking place with the support of Aardman and Shaun the Sheep. Shaun will be helping children talk to grown ups about how to make streets safer and healthier for everyone. The walk, co-ordinated by Brake and sponsored by the Ocado Foundation, is also a great opportunity for schools to raise money to help Brake campaign for safer roads and support families who have lost loved ones in road crashes. Campaigns Safe Driving report on Speed Last week we launched the latest Direct Line & Brake Safe Driving report on Speed. The report, based on a survey of more than 1,000 UK drivers, revealed that drivers feel unsafe travelling at 60mph on single-carriageway rural roads and the majority would support – or not object to – a reduction in the speed limit. We used the findings to call on the Government to review the default 60mph speed limit on rural roads, with a view to its reduction. The report gained good coverage in national and local news media. Transport Select Committee Road Safety Inquiry The Transport Select Committee has launched an inquiry into the Government's approach to road safety. With five people dying on our roads every day, this is a welcome step and will hopefully lead to constructive dialogue about how the Government's approach can be improved.
