In this briefing, ETSC outlines its
recommendations on the key EU road safety policy dossiers to be steered
by the Bulgarian Presidency of the European Union in the first half of
2018.
These include supporting the adoption of a new long-term strategic Road Safety Programme for the EU and pushing for the adoption of the delayed road safety legislation on vehicle safety and infrastructure safety management.
The briefing stresses the importance of looking to the future and ensuring that Europe is prepared for the growth in automated driving technologies and the arrival of autonomous vehicles. This will help to ensure the European Union can maintain its role as a major global automotive market and leader on road safety.
The briefing also examines progress towards the 2020 target with recommendations for maximising the results of road safety work and reversing the slowdown in the reduction in road deaths and serious injuries on Europe’s roads.
