UN HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM PUTS SPOTLIGHT ON MOBILITY SDG Over the last few months, Alliance members have been working with FIA Foundation to advocate with their governments to include road safety in the Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) that they will present at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July. 48 countries will present VNRs on SDGs 6, 7, 11, 12, 15, and 17, which includes road safety SDG 11.2. Alliance Member Humanity & Inclusion will hold a side event at the HLPF on 10 July 2018, supported by the Alliance, on the theme “Safer and inclusive roads and transport for cities that leave no one behind.” FIA Foundation will hold an event on 13 July 2018 focusing on “Every Journey, Every Child: A Global Priority for Urban Sustainable Development.” Read an overview of what the HLPF is and why it is important HERE. Read more about HLPF 2018 HERE. WEBINARS: HOW TO ADVOCATE FOR THE UN VOLUNTARY TARGETS The third of our webinars on NGOs and the Voluntary Targets was published yesterday. The webinars are now publicly available on our website HERE. You can listen to them any time, but if you would like to take the accompanying test to receive an Alliance certificate, you need to register HERE before Thursday 5 July 2018. We will be continuing the series with webinars focusing on each of the twelve targets individually. You can use the same sign-up form to be notified when these additional webinars are released. If you have already registered for the first three webinars, you do not need to sign up again. ALLIANCE ADVOCATES: MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH DECISION MAKERS  The next Alliance Advocate training will be held in November in India. Alliance members in Asia can apply HERE. Around the world, previous Alliance Advocates are making a difference in their communities. The African Alliance Advocates are currently using their training to assess school zones and push decision makers to make road improvements that will save lives. In Slovenia, Zavod VOZIM has received the European Commission Road Safety Excellence Award for a project designed by David Razboršek following his Advocate training in 2017. Read more HERE. FIRST ROAD SAFETY OBSERVATORY FOR AFRICA Last month at the International Transport Forum (ITF) 2018 Summit, the World Bank, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), and the ITF signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the first regional Road Safety Observatory in Africa. Africa has the highest rates of road traffic fatalities in the world. The establishment of the observatory is a big step because it will enable national and local governments and NGOs to access more comprehensive and accurate data that can be used to advocate for, design, and implement evidence-based strategies and interventions. Read more HERE.   YELLOW IS FOR ACTION IN MAY Maio Amarelo, or Yellow May, is a road safety movement held annually in May in 28 countries around the world. The theme of this year's Maio Amarelo was “We are the traffic.” The movement is coordinated by Alliance member Observatório Nacional de Segurança Viária, Brazil. Read more HERE. Linked to Yellow May since 2015, Australia's National Road Safety Week, spearheaded by Alliance member Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, saw public landmarks illuminated in yellow in recognition of the event.
