As noted in an email from the World Health Organization you may have recently received, and as you may already know, a UN General Assembly resolution proclaiming a Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 (A/64/L.44/Rev.1) was adopted this March and was cosponsored by more than 100 countries. You can find the resolution here:http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2010/ga10920.doc.htmThe Decade of Action for Road Safety will be a unique opportunity for increased action on a number of fronts, and the contribution of NGOs, such as yours, will be essential to the success of the Decade. After an open call for input, the members of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) and a wide rage of stakeholders have developed a draft Plan for the Decade of Action. Please find the latest draft of the Plan here:http://www.who.int/roadsafety/decade_of_action/plan/en/index.htmlThe Decade of Action for Road Safety will officially launch on 11 May 2011.Now we are encouraging all NGOs working in road safety and with road victims to think about what they and others might do during the Decade and to contribute their expertise. By sharing your plans and ideas, you can help make the Decade as successful as possible.As you can see in the Plan for the Decade, there are 5 "Pillars" that will encompass the activities associated with the Decade. Your NGO may do work that falls under one or more of the Pillars. We are taking a survey to find out what your NGO and others might do to support the Pillars of the Decade. A simple form has been created where you can enter activities that might be undertaken in support of the Decade:http://bit.ly/a0rYBSBy taking the time to fill out this form by midnight GMT on November 12, you will be making a real contribution to the planning for the Decade of Action. By detailing your aims, work, and ideas you will not only raise the profile of your NGO's efforts, but you will also help other NGOs in the development of their plans for the Decade.Once all responses are compiled, we will write to you with further information. The Decade of Action is a once-in-a-career opportunity to collectively move forward all of our efforts to prevent road traffic injuries and help victims of road crashes around the world.
