2022: ALLIANCE HIGHLIGHTS Read about some of the Alliance's key moments in 2022. These moments back up members' work in their countries, mobilize them for coordinated advocacy, and enable the Alliance to represent grassroots NGOs, their work, and their perspectives, among global and regional partners. Mobilizing NGOs 300 members in 100 countries: The Alliance reached this milestone in May 2022. We are now 321 members in 102 countries. Five regional and one global NGO Call to Action were launched at the Seventh Global Meeting of Nongovernmental Organizations Advocating for Road Safety and Road Victims (Global Meeting). The Call to Actions demand evidence-based action, starting with 30 km/h zones, investment, and involvement of NGOs in road safety decision-making. #CommitToAct Week of Action campaign messages were seen by at least 55 million people and the campaign resulted in 41 decision maker endorsements. A new Alliance Chapter was launched for Latin America in August 2022, which, alongside the existing Africa Chapter, will strengthen and unite the work of NGOs at a regional level.  Safer Cycling Advocate Program: Experiences and Inspiration was published. It used case studies to inspire NGOs to kick off or strengthen cycling advocacy in their own cities and countries.  Representing Civil Society International Transport Forum: The Alliance's Lotte Brondum addressed the Ministerial Roundtable and the Alliance held Live From Leipzig, a livestreamed event for the #CommitToAct campaign.  Pushing for accountability Analysis of the High-level Meeting on Improving Global Road Safety compared political declaration A/RES/76/294, which was negotiated and approved by UN Member States, against other recent global road safety commitments and scrutinized the plenary statements made by country representatives. On track or off target? was an online session held by the Alliance to mark the anniversary of the launch of the Global Plan. It was a checkpoint for progress toward the 2030 targets from the civil society perspective.

2022: NGOs MAKING AN IMPACT Alliance NGOs around the world are increasing their influence with their governments. Their advocacy is contributing to significant policy changes and government implementation to ensure safe mobility for every person. Read a selection of stories about our members' work from 2022, including Fundación La Liga Contra La Violencia Vial, Colombia, Coalición Movilidad Segura, Mexico, and LASER International, Senegal, whose advocacy has led to new national laws in 2022 incorporating specific evidence-based interventions, including 30 km/h zones, infrastructure design, vehicle safety, and more. 2023: A PUSH FOR ACCOUNTABILITY In 2023, the Alliance will increase focus on accountability. The Global Plan reminds us that governments have primary responsibility for enabling access to safe, affordable, accessible, sustainable mobility for every person and reducing road deaths and injuries. The Global Plan also sets out a role for NGOs to hold their governments accountable for achieving this. In March, at the Eighth Global Meeting, the Alliance will launch its new Accountability Toolkit. The toolkit will provide structured tools to help NGOs scrutinize what their governments are doing, and not doing, to achieve the Decade of Action. We also look forward to the opportunities presented by the UN Global Road Safety Week in May, which will focus on safe walking, cycling, and public transport, the launch of the next Global Status Report on Road Safety, and the second anniversary of the Global Plan.

PRINCE MICHAEL INTERNATIONAL ROAD SAFETY AWARDS CELEBRATE NGOs' ACHIEVEMENT “I have been impressed by the growing success of work being done by NGOs, usually working in partnership,” said HRH Prince Michael of Kent in his speech at the awards ceremony for the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards. He continued, “I am especially pleased that many of my award winners this year reflect this significant development.” We are delighted that NGOs' impact is being recognized and proud of the role that the Alliance has had in bringing NGOs together, supporting their advocacy, and amplifying their work. In particular, both Road Safety Pioneers' and Luchemos Por La Vida and Asociación Madres Del Dolor’s award-winning programs were implemented with support and coaching via the Alliance Incubator Program.
