The European Road Safety Charter has contributed to saving more than 40 000 lives by bringing together 2300 entities that commit to concrete, measurable, and free road safety related activities. Help us to continue convincing more entities to act and contribute to saving 30 000 lives.
We would hereby like to prove that there are more than 30 000 people who believe that there should be no more victims on the roads!
Some facts:
•Road Safety is a major societal health issue. In 2011, more than 30,000 people died on the roads of the European Union. This is the equivalent of 205 Boeing 737s crashing and killing everyone on board.
• Young people are especially at risk. The leading cause of death for teenagers are road related accidents.
• For every death in Europe´s roads there is an estimate of 4 permanently disabling injuries such as brain damage or spinal cord damage, 8 serious injuries and 50 minor injuries.
• Something can be done! – Over 102 000 lives were saved through the EU´s 2001-2010 road safety programme.
• Between 2001 and 2010 the number of deaths on European Roads has been reduced by 43%
