| American import tax will hurt European motorcycling |
The
United States want to punish the European Union by raising the import
tax for a lot of products from Europe, including motorcycles.
The reason for this
proposal: the European Union bans the import of American beef and beef
products produced from animals that have been given growth hormones.

Paris starts enforcing low emissions zones

From 15th January 2017, those not complying with the low emission zone in Paris will be sent fines of between €68 and €135.
A low emission zone started in Paris on 1st July 2015. From 15th January 2017 the low emission zone will be enforced and a fine will be send for not complying. Motorcycles from before 2000 are banned completely. Please click here to read the full article.  |
| Motorcycle recalls |
 Products
placed on the European market are subject to general safety
requirements. These requirements are included in the General Product
Safety Directive which aims at ensuring that only safe consumer products
are sold. The European Commissions’ Rapid Alert System (RAPEX) enables
the quick exchange of information between the European countries and the
European Commission about dangerous non-food products posing a risk to
health and safety of consumers.FEMA publishes all recalls from the RAPEX reports that are of concern to motorcyclists, such as recalled motorcycles or motorcycle clothing. Click here to view all motorcycle recalls >> |
| ‘Young motorcyclists face great risks on European roads’ |
The
analysis of 9,186 accidents where a motorcyclist was severely injured,
shows that specifically young, male riders face a significant risk to
become a road traffic victim.
The European Commission recently published the ‘Study on serious road traffic injuries in the EU’. The general objective of this study was to collect knowledge that could in the future prevent serious road traffic injuries. The specific objective was to provide fact-based analysis on the most common circumstances and types of road traffic crashes leading to serious injuries. | Keep riding possible with growing environmental demands |
FEMA
and FIM Europe met with ACEM, the organization of European motorcycle
manufacturers. On the agenda was the wish of the riders’ organizations
to have motorcyclists better informed about fuel consumption and exhaust
emissions.
In FEMA’s and FIM Europe’s view this will help the buyer of a motorcycle to make a better informed and balanced choice which will probably lead to cleaner and less fuel consuming motorcycles.
