In our last update, we celebrated the historic milestone of reaching 1 million signatures in support of the Child Declaration for Road Safety. We also let you know that we would be taking your voice to the 2nd Global High Level Conference on Road Safety in Brasilia, and we did just that!
The conference served as huge moment for the global road safety community to reflect on progress made since the launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety. It also acted as an opportunity for global road safety decision-makers to plan efforts to achieve the goal of halving road deaths by 2020 as established in the Global Goals.
The #SaveKidsLives campaign was a major focus point at the conference as well as being featured at events that took place before and during the conference.
In our last update, we celebrated the historic milestone of reaching 1 million signatures in support of the Child Declaration for Road Safety. We also let you know that we would be taking your voice to the 2nd Global High Level Conference on Road Safety in Brasilia, and we did just that!
The conference served as huge moment for the global road safety community to reflect on progress made since the launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety. It also acted as an opportunity for global road safety decision-makers to plan efforts to achieve the goal of halving road deaths by 2020 as established in the Global Goals.
The #SaveKidsLives campaign was a major focus point at the conference as well as being featured at events that took place before and during the conference.
Before the event kicked off, 500 school children
gathered at the National Congress of Brazil and took the moment to
create a giant '500'. This brought attention to the number of children
killed every day on the road across the world. This resulted in some
stunning aerial photos and a call to action!
At the Brasilia meeting, children handed over the 1 million signatures to our world leaders. EFTHITA, your voice was part of the action that called upon the leaders present to commit to road safety, so that life saving measures can be put in place on the world's roads. The leaders listened to your voice and pledged to take action!
So what now? As you know, a pledge is only as good as its implementation so now we must collectively call on our decision-makers both locally and nationally to enact this road safety action.
By massive consensus, participants to the conference agreed that the #SaveKidsLives campaign should continue. Therefore the campaign will move into a new phase. The campaign team will review the strategy of moving forward and we invite you to take part in future planning. Find out how here.
